Success for Runnymede at the BFWSC Winter Open Meet

Runnymede Swimming Club took a team of swimmers to the Waltham Forest Winter Open Meet, in the traditional end of year gala for the squad.  And despite being in full training for the start of the Essex County Championships in January, the team produced some great results.

Alex Delicata was the pick of Runnymede's swimmers on the day, dominating the 200m events in the 9/10 years age group.  Alex secured podium finishes in all the races he competed in, with 1st position in the 200m Freestyle, 200m Backstroke, 50m Backstroke and a 2nd place finish in the 200m Butterfly. His 2nd position in the Butterfly event came behind team-mate George Smith who convincingly won the race in a season's best time.  George also produced a good performance in the competition, gaining another four medal winning finishes with a 2nd position in the 50m Butterfly,  3rd in the 50m Freestyle and 200m Breaststroke events, and also a 4th for 200m Freestyle.

Also competing in the 9/10 year age group was 9 year old Henry Newton, who showed that he should be a good prospect for the future if he maintains his current efforts in training, by picking up three medals despite being one of the youngest competitors in the field.  Henry raced to  4th in the 50m Butterfly and 50m Backstroke, 6th in the 50m Freestyle, and also finished just outside the medals in 7th in the 200m Backstroke and 8th in the 50m Breaststroke.

Charlotte Davis returned to good form in the Butterfly events, winning the 11/12 year 50m and 200m races in some good times that were close to her personal bests.  Sarah Wright continued to add to her haul of medals, by winning the 50m Backstroke event and a further five other medals for: 2nd and a new PB in the 11/12 year 200m Butterfly, 3rd in 200m Backstroke, Freestyle and Breaststroke, with 4th and a new PB in the 50m Freestyle.  Also in the same age group, Charlie Beale produced a new personal best time to take 2nd in the 200m Backstroke and added 3rd in the 50m Freestyle and Backstroke events, and another 6th in the 200m Freestyle.  Georgie Hunt inched closer to achieving a National qualifying time when taking 2nd in the 200m Breaststroke event.  She also added 2nd in the 50m Freestyle, and 3rd for the 50m & 200m Butterfly.

In the 9/10 year age group, Laura Humphreys & Chloe Davis were both on form, achieving new personal best times in most of their races.  Laura took 2nd in the 50m Butterfly, 50m Backstroke and 200m Butterfly, with a 3rd in the 200m Backstroke.  Chloe added 3rd in the 50m Freestyle, 4th in the 50m Butterfly, 5th for the 200m Freestyle with a massive personal best improvement, and 6th in the 50m & 200m Backstroke.

Other good performances on the day included:  Charlotte Delicata 3rd 13/14 yr 200m Backstroke, 5th 50m Backstroke.  Matt Scott 3rd 13/14 yr 200m Butterfly, 4th 200m Freestyle, 5th 50m Butterfly & Freestyle.
