Article for Block B and Block C
The swimmers from
Runnymede Swimming Club participating in the Essex County Championships
achieved outstanding results again in the recent Block B and Block C meets
across two recent weekends.
The swimmers continued
their recent success maintaining superb performances despite serious
competition from across the county. They
were proud holders of many medals are putting in some fantastic personal best
times!
Top performer across both
weekends was Ellie Pirrie in the 11 year old age group after notching up no
less than 2 gold medals for 200 breaststroke, and 200 individual medley, 2
silver medals for 100 individual medley and 800 freestyle and 4 bronze medals for
100 Backstroke, 200 freestyle, 400 freestyle and 200 backstroke proving that
she really is a top all round swimmer.
Chloe Davis in the 15 year old age group continues a great season with 4
silver medals in 100 butterfly, 100 backstroke, 200 backstroke
and 200 freestyle and a bronze medal for 100 individual medley and fourth and
fifth placings for the longer distance freestyle events of 800 and 1500ms. Rory Geoghegan in the 12year old age group
has really come on this year with silver medals for 100 individual medley and
100 breaststroke and two 7th placings, and James Winnell in the 14
year old age group achieved a bronze medal for 100 butterfly,
and two 4th and a 5th placing for other events.
Ellie Mitchell
continues her first season with another fantastic performance in the 200
freestyle achieving a 6th place and in the 400 individual medley
achieving 8th place.
Other notable
achievements from both weekends include Charlotte Davis achieving 5th
places for 100 butterfly and 10th place for 200 freestyle, Mark
Greenbaum reached 10th place in the boys 100 butterfly, Melissa
Knighton reached 10th place for 200 breaststroke, and Murphy Talbot
reached 7th place for 1500 freestyle, a closely fought race and a
remarkable result, and 10th place in the 800 freestyle showing he
really is a long distance swimmer.

from the swimming Club took part in the Championships having reached the
necessary
All the swimmers are
now training hard in preparation for Block D of the championships due to be
held on 28th and 29th March at Blackshots Leisure centre,
Grays.
The Runnymede Swimming
Club embraced Comic Relief day with a fun packed evening for all the swimmers
and parents! A fantastic time was had by all with the many games and activities
available, such as the old favourite of pinning the swimming float to the
swimmer to name just one, plus the children’s favourite of a ‘fancy dress fun
swim’ – it was not an evening for training hard, the emphasis was about getting
in to the spirit of the event and proved to be a huge success with a massive
£150 raised for Comic Relief. Committee Chairman Andy Clarke said ‘the evening
has been a great success with the children really having a great time – it’s
definitely something will we do next year”
