Runnymede lead the way
at the Essex Swimming League
Runnymede Swimming Club top Division 2 of the Essex Swimming League after another great performance in round 2. The club's swimmers took 17 first places and 10 seconds out of 49 events and now lead Division 2 at the half way stage of the competition.
Jennifer Lamb was in good form for the girl's team in the under 11-year age group. Jenny won both of her individual races in the 50m Breaststroke and 1 length Butterfly events, then also helped her team-mates Chloe Davis, newcomer Amy Barrell and Laura Humphreys to two good 2nd positions in the 4x1L Medley and Freestyle Relay races. Laura went on to win her event in the 50m Backstroke and Chloe was close to her personal best when she achieved 2nd place in the 50m Freestyle.
In the boys under 11-year age group, Jonathan Ellis showed the opposition his ability by winning the 50m Freestyle in a good time. Alex Delicata dominated the 50m Backstroke event from start to finish and notch up another win for the boys under 11-year team. Henry Newton, the boy's team's youngest member, took 1st place in the 1 length Butterfly and also combined with James Craigie, Alex Delicata and Jonathan Ellis, to win the 4x1L Freestyle and Medley Relay events.
Charlotte Davis worked hard for the team during the competition, as she raced in 7 events whilst stepping in for other teammates who were unable to attend. Charlotte's best swim was in the under 15-years 100m Freestyle when she clocked a new personal best time and took 2nd place. In the under 13-year 50m Butterfly, Charlotte took 1st position and joined with Felicity Clarke, Amy Humphreys, Sarah Wright and Georgie Hunt for 1st places in the 4x50m Medley and Freestyle Relays. Samantha Knight, swimming in her favourite event, took a comfortable win in the U/15yr 100m Breaststroke and for the boy's team, Charlie Hunt took a respectable 2nd place in the same event.
Backstroke specialists Sarah Wright and Charlotte Delicata also had a successful meet, with Sarah winning the U/13 year 50m Backstroke in a new personal best, and Charlotte taking 1st in the 100m Backstroke in another good time. Georgie Hunt capped a string of good swims during January with a new personal best for 1st place in the girls U/13yr 50m Breaststroke. She also won the 50m Freestyle in the same age group and performed well in relays throughout the evening.
