Runnymede Swimming Club are Essex League Division 2 Champions

for 2005/2006

Runnymede will join the County's elite clubs next year after clinching the Division 2 title by winning all but one of the rounds this season.  The team is now gaining the benefits of its successful development program which has nurtured a wealth of talent within its membership.

Head Coach Paul Eveleigh commented "This is another sure sign that the programme we put in place five years ago to take the club to the top levels of county swimming, is beginning to reap rewards.  The programme hasn't finished yet, and there's still more improvements to come, but we are certainly getting there."

The final rounds results included 39 top 3 places from only 49 events, and show the depth of talent now in the squad with results coming from all areas of the team.  These were made up of 14 first places, 17 second places and 8 third places and amassing and impressive total of 181 points on the night.

Topping the list of Runnymede performers were the girls and boys under 11-years squads, made up from Alice Cain, Ellie Wood, Charlotte Hartin Emma Hall, and Henry Newton, Rory Geoghegan, Thomas Giles, and James Spicer.  They notched up a fantastic 10 1st places out of 12 events and didn't drop out of the top three positions all evening.

The boys under 13-year team of George Smith, Alex Delicata, Thomas Clay and Patrick Neary collected wins in both relay events and George Smith took a good 1st place in the 50m Backstroke.  Alex Delicata (Butterfly) and Patrick Neary (Breaststroke) both took 2nd position in their individual events.  The girls under 13-year squad of Laura Humphreys, Chloe Davis, Yvette James and Sarah Trenery performed well with a majority of their swims gaining 2nd place.

In the girls under 15-year age group, Charlotte Davis won the 50m Butterfly, Charlotte Delicata took 2nd in the 100m Breaststroke, Sarah Wright came 2nd in the 100m Backstroke and Charlie Beale gained another 2nd for the 100m Freestyle races.  They also took 2nd positions in the freestyle and Medley Relay events.

Other notable swims came from Howard Clarke for 2nd place in the under 15-years 100m Freestyle with a personal best time, Gareth Henson in the Open 100m Breaststroke where he smashed his personal best time by 3 seconds, and Aaron Eveleigh for 2nd places in the Open Butterfly and Freestyle events.
