REPORT ON RUNNYMEDE SWIMMING CLUB

HASLEMERE OPEN MEET- 4^th JULY 2004

KING HENRY THE FIRST RULES HASLEMERE

A small but very effective contingent from Runnymede Swimming Club made the journey to Haslemere in Surrey for the summer Designated Open Gala, and enjoyed considerable success, winning 10 gold, 4 silver and 1 bronze medals between the team members.

Henry Newton, competing in his first designated competition, won the Top Boy Award in the 9 year age group with a super swim in the 50m fly in 38.98 seconds. He also won the 50m backstroke and 100m Individual Medley and gained the silver medal in the 50 and 200 metre freestyle events as well as 5^th in 50 metres breaststroke.

James Craigie, in the same age group, and also swimming in his first competition at this level, performed admirably to finish with 3 silver medals behind Henry in 50m backstroke, 50m butterfly and 100m individual medley. James was also in the bronze medal position in the 50m freestyle, to illustrate that he is yet another swimmer to watch for in the future.

Georgie Hunt was the top performer in the 11 year girls events, winning 4 events and scooping the Top Girl award for her swim in the 100m Individual Medley, which she won in 1.20.37. Other first places came in the 100m breaststroke, 100m freestyle and 100m butterfly.

Aaron Eveleigh made a welcome return to form in winning 3 events in fast times, and with more concentration on his start in the 200m freestyle would have won the Top Boy Award. Aaron, trailing in third by 2 metres at the 150m mark, put in a blistering last 50m of 28.3 seconds to win and post a Personal Best of 2.03.07 only to discover that he was disqualified for twitching on the starting block. The new winner, Josh Harvey from Haslemere, went on to scoop the Top Boy Award. Aaron made amends by winning the 200m Individual medley, 100 metres butterfly and 100m freestyle.

Charlotte Davis had a good meet, securing gold in the 100m butterfly in 1.15.38 and gaining 5^th in the 100m freestyle in a personal best time of 1.09.75. She also gained a personal best in the 100m breaststroke, an event for which Charlotte is not best known.

Sam Knight showed the opposition a clean pair of heels in the 100m breaststroke in the 12 year age group for girls in 1.27.00. She also braved the 100m freestyle where she was rewarded with a personal best time.

Elliot Eveleigh took the silver medal in the boys 12 years 200m freestyle in 2.32.61, and had a string of top 8 finishes in 100m butterfly, 100m breaststroke and 100m Individual Medley.

Blue Newton also had a good day, winning a top 8 position in 2 events, the 100m freestyle and 100m Individual Medley as well as securing a number of personal best times.

Chloe Davis swam 3 personal best times in the 100m freestyle, 100m Individual medley and 100m backstroke.
