RUNNYMEDE SWIMMING CLUB
Runnymede S.C’s Keeley Spooner was one of England’s squad of 13 Cerebral Palsy swimmers who were celebrating after amassing a staggering 32 medals at the inaugural Belgium Open Disability Championships in Antwerp. This was the first time the Belgians have hosted a disability championship. It was extremely well supported by their Federation and was of an exceptionally high standard.
The swimmers, who were selected from clubs across the country by Cerebral Palsy Sport, competed against top athletes from Europe, Canada and the US at the IPC-sanctioned event.
Keeley had some outstanding swims throughout the weekend and won the Gold Medal in the 200IM. An incredible total of 6 gold medals were accumulated by the English Team together with a further 26 silver and bronze medals. There were many personal bests from the English team and the swimmers posted good results in a competitive environment, making a promising for the future of CP Sport.
Keeley is currently studying at Manchester University where she is in the first year of a physiotherapy degree; when she is home from University she has been training regularly with Runnymede S.C. since early this year. The Club is very proud to have the world-record holder, as one of their squad, her talent, dedication and enthusiasm is an inspiration to the younger club swimmers.
