Runnymede Swimming Club has maintained their position as 6th Top Club in the county following the 2nd blocks of events and halfway point of this years Essex County Championships. Due to the great efforts of all the 26 swimmers who took part with a grand  total of 59 qualifying swims they returned with a fantastic 17 finals/top 6  places between them. 9 of the Club’s swimmers are currently placed in the top 10 Boy/Girl points table or their respective age groups.

 

10 year old Ellie Pirrie was in fine form again winning the Silver Medal in the 200m Breaststroke and 100m I/M events; she also had an outstanding swim in a closely contested 400m race finishing in 4th place where all the first 4 swimmers broke the event best time record.

 

In the 11 years Boys Barton Townley also continued his good form winning Bronze Medals in the 200m Freestyle and 100m I/M events; he also went on to take 4th place in the 400m I/M. In the same age group Rory Geoghegan who is having some great swims this year, took 4th place in the 200m Breaststroke and 5th in the 400m I/M.

 

In the 14years Girls Chloe Davis had another successful weekend swimming despite having travelled home overnight from a weeks School Skiing trip and arriving at the event with only 10 minutes spare. Chloe reached the finals of 3 events 100m I/M (4th); 100m freestyle (5th) and 100m Backstroke (6th); she also went on to swim the 8oom freestyle in a pb time and took 5th place in the 200m I/M event.

 

In the 11 year girl’s age group Kayleigh Sims had a great swim in the 200m Breaststroke finishing in 4th place and Madi Townley was 5th in the 200m I/M.

 

Ellie Mitchell, on only her second outing at such a prestigious event reached her first ever County Championship final finishing in a fantastic 5th place in the 100 I/M - A great achievement for a young girl who will not be 9 until March’ Ellie shows great potential for the future.

 

Henry Newton, swimming in the 12 years age group finishing in 6th place in the final of the 100m I/M and also secured 6th place in the 400m I/M event.  15 year Charlotte Davis who now is competing in the Open Age Group continues to deliver by securing 6th place in the 100 freestyle.

 

Other swimmers who qualified to be at this prestigious event were Rebecca Scott, Howard Clarke, Charlie Beale, Patrick Neary, Jonathon Ellis, Ellie Townley, James Winnell , Adam Carter, Thomas Giles, Murphy Talbot, Abigail Brown, Charlotte Hartin, Melissa Knighton, Matthew Davis, Karis Ellerby, Sarah Ellis and Erin Geoghegan. Most of these swimmers achieved personal best times and in many cases only just missed gaining an award.
