RUNNYMEDE SWIMMING CLUB

 

 

Runnymede S.C. took a much larger squad of swimmers to compete in this years Rushmoor Royals S.C. Autumn Meet in Aldershot, than they took to last year’s event. The Meet, an ASA Licensed Level 2 Meet, was the Clubs first Long Course competition of the season and was attended by some of the top swimmers from the south of the Country. Runnymede’s squad of 15 had some excellent results winning a total of 23 Medals (Gold, Silver & Bronze) along with a further 16 swims which achieved top 6 places.

 

The team performed extremely well throughout the weekend’s events and one of the most impressive performances overall was from Runnymede newcomer Barton Townley, competing in his first ever Long Course meet. Barton (9/10 years) swam superbly to win 4 Gold Medals in the 200m Freestyle, Backstroke, I/M and 400m Freestyle and then went on to win the Silver Medal in the 200m Fly.

 

Runnymede’s other Gold Medallist of the weekend competing in the 15/16 years age group was Howard Clarke who had some excellent swims to win 2 Gold Medals in the 200m Fly and I/M events, a Silver in the 400m Freestyle and a 4th place in the 200m freestyle.

 

Charlotte Delicata produced some great swims over the weekend before flying out to the Essex Training Camp in Cyprus on the Monday morning. Charlotte (13/14 years0 claimed the Silver Medal in 4 out of the 5 events she entered 200m Backstroke, Breaststroke, I/M and 400m Freestyle and also took 4th place in the 200m Freestyle. Charlotte was the only swimmer from Runnymede to be selected to attend this years training camp. Nathalie Brown, Runnymede’s Assistant Coach and ex-GB Swimmer was also at the camp as one of the lane coaches.

 

In the Boys 11/12 years age group Alex Delicata had a excellent weekends swimming winning 2 Silver medals in the 200m I/M and Fly events and 2 Bronze Medals in the 200m Freestyle and Backstroke.

 

Runnymede’s other medallists were Charlotte Davis who swam an outstanding 200m Butterfly race taking an impressive 3 seconds off her previous long course personal best time to win the Silver Medal in the 13/14 years age group. Rory Geoghegan competing in the 9/10 years swam superbly winning the Silver Medal in the 200m I/M; Bronze in the 200m Backstroke and also went on to finish 4th in the 200m Fly and 5th in the 200m freestyle events. Jason Daniels (13/14 years) took the Bronze Medal in the 200m Fly for his age group along with 4th Place in the200m Backstroke.

 

Chloe Davis produced some outstanding swims throughout the weekend finishing in the top six in every event that she competed in in her respective age group, Chloe was 4th in the 200m Backstroke and 400m Freestyle; 5th in the 200m freestyle, I/M and 800m Freestyle and 6th in the 400m I/M.

 

Other Top 6 places went to Sara Wright 4th in the 200m Fly and 6th in the 200m Backstroke. Madison Townley (9/10 years) 5th 400m Freestyle and 6th 200m Backstroke. Ryan Daniels (11/12 years) was 5th in the 200m Fly and Henry Newton in the same age group was 6th in the 200m Fly.

 

The remaining swimmers from Runnymede who also swam well were and just missing out on a top six placing were Charlie Beale, Ellie Townley, James Winnell and Alice Cain.
