NATIONAL SPEEDO LEAGUE DIVISION 1
ROUND 1
Runnymede Swimming Club produced their best ever team performance at the 1st round of this year’s National Speedo League. The Club who were promoted to Division 1 last year proved how much it has grown in strength by finishing in an outstanding 4th place out of 8 in the first round of this years competition, only 6 points behind the 3rd place team (Wandsworth).
The team produced some excellent swims in both individual and relay events, competing against some of the best swimmers in the region. Many of the youngsters had to swim up an age group but still managed to finish in the top 3 as well as producing outstanding swims in their own age groups.
Rebecca Scott had a fantastic swim winning the Ladies open 100m Breaststroke in a personal best time and then went on to finish 3rd in her respective age group for the same event. Charlotte Davis had excellent swims in the 100m Fly events wining her own age group by a considerable margin to her closest rival and finished in 3rd place in the 15 years event in a personal best time.
Laura Humphrey’s was outstanding in her individual races securing 2 1st places in her age group for the 50m Fly and Backstroke events. Sarah Wright, Charlotte Delicata, George Smith, Chloe Davis, and Alex Delicata all had excellent results in their respective age group individual events coming 2nd in 1 or 2 events. Elliott Eveleigh also swam well to take 3rd place in the boys 13 years 100m Freestyle.
In the relay events the squad produced some fantastic team swims with the girls 9 – 11 years medley team (Amy Barrell, Jenny Lamb, Laura Humphreys and Chloe Davis) and the boys 9 – 11 years medley team (Alex Delicata, George Smith, Henry Newton and Jonathan Ellis) both finishing in 1st place. The girl’s 13 years Freestyle team (Charlotte Davis, Sarah Wright, Laura Rixon and Charlie Beale) and the girls 15years Medley team (Charlotte Delicata, Sam Knight, Charlotte Davis and Clare Trenery) also performed well both taking the 3rd place points.
Coach Paul Eveleigh was delighted with the result that places the team in 12th position in the division (24 clubs in total) with a total of 10 points at this early stage of the competition.
The rest of the team who also swam brilliantly contributing to their teams success were: Nick Ison, Patrick Neary, Sam Goldfinch, Blue Newton, Howard Clarke, Rebecca Collins, Harry Smith, Hugh Smith, Charlie Hunt, Sarah Jarratt, Jamie-Leigh Martin, Claire Ketley, Aaron Eveleigh and Paul Eveleigh.
