Runnymede Swimming Club’s national qualifying swimmers Ellie Pirrie, Barton Townley and Kayleigh Sims had some outstanding results in this years’ ASA National Age Group Championships held at Ponds Forge Pool in Sheffield last week.

Ellie Pirrie produced some fantastic results in the butterfly events finishing in an amazing 5^th place in the final of the 100m Butterfly and 7^th place in the 200m final. Ellie has worked extremely hard all year which has paid off with these well deserved results. Ellie also had an excellent swim in the 200m I/M event were she finished in 18^th place overall.

Naturally talented Barton Townley also has had a fantastic National Championships where he produced some outstanding swims in the 100m and 200m Backstroke events. Barton reached the finals of both of these events and finished in a fantastic 6^th place in the 100m and 7^th place in the 200m. He also went on do an excellent swim in the 200m I/M event finishing in 11^th place, just missing out on qualifying for his 3^rd final.

Runnymede’s other National qualifier was breaststroker Kayleigh Sims who had an amazing swim in the 200m event in a brilliant personal best time and narrowly missing out on a place in the finals by .4 of a second and finishing in 11^th place overall.

This was the first year for several that the Club has had any swimmers qualify to compete at the most prestigious event of the year for Age Group swimming. The competition is the top event of the year and is attended by only the best swimmers in the country who achieve the qualifying standards. The club are extremely proud of the trio of 11 year olds and their outstanding performances which saw 2 of them reach the finals in 2 events each. The Clubs’ Head Coach Stuart Jago who only took over towards the end of the year has had a fantastic first season with the club culminating in attending the Nationals with the three youngsters who are definitely names to look out for in the future.
