East Region Youth Championships News Report.
Four of Runnymede Swimming Club’s older swimmers qualified to compete in this years’ East Region Youth Championships held at the UEA in Norwich at the beginning of May. The competition is of an exceptional standard and is attended by the top swimmers in the East of the Country. Over the 3 day event, the 4 girls, Rebecca Scott, Charlotte Davis, Charlotte Delicata and Charlie Beale qualified for an impressive total of 19 events between them, and from this 3 of the girls, Scott, Davis and Delicata reached an amazing twelve finals. Too reach finals at this level of competition is an outstanding achievement for the girls who have been training at Runnymede from an early age, all 4 of them have been coached by the Club’s Head Coach, Paul Eveleigh, for over 6 years now and their hard work in training combined with Paul’s’ excellent coaching skills is now producing some outstanding results.
Rebecca Scott had an excellent weekend’s swimming with a fabulous result in the 16 years and over 200m Breaststroke event where she won her first Regional Championships Silver Medal; this was a fantastic and well deserved result. Rebecca then went on to produce excellent swims in the Finals of the 50m and 100m Breaststroke events winning 4th place in the 100m and 5th in the 50m event. Rebecca also went on to finish eleventh in the 200m I/M for her age group.
15 year old Butterfly Swimmer, Charlotte Davis also had an outstanding weekend competing in a total of 6 events. She reached the finals of all 3 of the Butterfly events with an excellent performance in the 200m Fly to finish in 4th place in a long course personal best time and just missing out on a Bronze Medal by 4/100’s of a second. Charlotte also had an outstanding swim in the 100m butterfly final to take 5th place; and in the final of the 50m Fly she finished 8th. Charlotte qualified for the 50m freestyle, 100m freestyle and the 200m I/M events where she also had some very good swims.
Charlotte Delicata also 15 years had an amazing weekend qualifying for a total of 7 events and reaching Finals in an outstanding 6 of them. These were Charlotte’s first ever Regional Finals and she rose to the occasion with an outstanding swim in the 200m I/M event where she finished in 4th place just pipped from the Bronze Medal by 1/100 of a second. Charlotte also had an excellent swim in the final of the 200m Breaststroke finishing in 6th position. In her other finals Charlotte was 7th in the 200m Backstroke and 8th in the 100m Backstroke and 200m Backstroke.
Runnymede’s other Regional qualifier Charlie Beale had good swims in the 2 events that she qualified in, the 200m I/M and the 100m freestyle.
Head Coach Paul Eveleigh was delighted with their performances and he and his team are now preparing the squads younger swimmers for the Age Group Regional Championships which are also being held in Norwich in June. This year the club have an amazing nineteen swimmers who have qualified for Age Group Championships plus the 4 Youth swimmers making an exceptional 23 swimmers taking part in the Competition. Their success further shows how far the club has improved over the last few years and is now making its’ presence felt at the higher level competitions.
