Press Report on the Essex County Age Group Championship Block B
The second block of the Essex County Championships held at Enfield, proved to be a very successful weekend for Runnymede Swimming Club. The club picked up another haul of medals and top six positions as it continues to build on the previous years triumphs.
Aaron Eveleigh topped the list of Runnymede swimmers, proving that he is the fastest 15 year boy in the County over 100m when he won the Gold medal in the freestyle for a new personal best time and maintains his position in the overall boys standings. Aaron also won a bronze for the 200m Breaststroke and swum to a good 4th place in the final of the 100m Breaststroke.
Georgina Hunt produced her best swim of the year so far, when she raced in the girls 12-year 200m Breaststroke. She not only took a huge chunk off her personal best time for the event, but she achieved her first National Qualifying time and the Bronze medal. Georgie also won a further 2 bronze medals, the first in the final on the 100m Breaststroke, and the next for a new PB in the 200m Individual Medley, and added a good 4th position in the 400m Individual Medley to seal a good all round performance during the weekend. Also competing in the 12-year age group, Sarah Wright put in a gritty performance in the 400m Individual Medley to win the silver medal with a big improvement in her personal best time. Sarah also picked up another County Championship award to add to her growing collection, with a good 6th position in the 200m Breaststroke.
In the girl’s 13-year age group, Charlotte Davis improved from last years championships which saw her break into the top 6 for the Butterfly events. Charlotte produced new personal bests in the 100m and the 200m Butterfly races with two impressive swims to win her bronze medals in both events. Henry Newton was also successful in the Butterfly events, when he swum to a well deserved 2nd place and a silver medal in the final of the 10-year 100m, and a good bronze medal performance in the 200m Butterfly. Henry will be looking to go one better next year and claim the county title for his efforts.
Many of Runnymede’s swimmers produced personal best swims in the Championships, and those who finished just outside the top 6 award winning positions included Charlotte Delicata 7th in the 13yr 400m Freestyle & 9th in the 200m Freestyle, William Muggleton 9th 11yr 100m I/M, Alex Delicata 10th 11yr 200m I/M & 12th 100m I/M, Joe Thompson 11th in the 11yr 100m Butterfly, Matt Scott 12th in the 14 yr 400m Freestyle, and Laura Humphreys 12th 11yr 100m Back.
